Our board is made up of a mix of local business owners, makers, artists, and concerned citizens. The majority of our board is made up of women, including queer and POC perspectives. In planning our events, accessibility is a core concern with regards to cost of entry, and ability to participate. For example, with our clothing swap it’s important that size or gender identity is not an exclusionary factor, so encouraging attendees to bring accessories and garments outside of a size range is important. A guiding principle of our movement is in valuing the lives and work of people making our garments in countries where their safety is not prioritized in the same way Canadian worker’s lives are, and educating the public about the human rights concerns in the production process. This global lens is an important element in the way diversity shapes our organization’s vision.
